T.V. Advertisements Evaluation
The Brief:
Our brief was to choose a product from Unilever and then analyse existing adverts for the product. Then we were tasked with re-branding that product and promoting it to another demographic group. For my product I chose to analyse and re-brand PG-Tips, as it was a product i used to use and I enjoyed the existing adverts.
The current PG-tips adverts are aimed at adults through the use of Johnny Vegas and the Voice talents of Ben Miller.
We decided we would aim it towards more teenage/student age groups, we chose this as that was the demographic we ourselves were in.
Finished Product & Feedback
We collected our feedback by creating a survey on survey monkey, then putting a link out in different ways such as social media or email. From the feedback we received we were able to see that although most people got that the ad was aimed at teenage/student audiences, a lot of the responders thought it was aimed at kids.
I do not think we managed to get the main message to our target audience, as our advert ended up saying "This is how you make tea" instead of "This is why you should drink PG instead of a different brand".
Picture wise, the video was shot quite well in my opinion, with just a few snags such as in some scenes it is clearly visible they were shot on different days due to the differing intensity of lighting from outside, and that the picture was quite bland it was not colourful enough to catch the eye. In regard to sound, generally the sound recorded on the day was ok, with the sound recorded later for overlap with the steps to make tea being slightly worse off in quality, the music added in though was a good quality. With the editing there were a few things we could've done better for example to be within the time frame specified we ended up cutting a large chunk of the opening cut, losing the majority of the camera movement effect. As well as this later on in the production the editing slips and becomes more rough-during the steps to make tea, you can see the clips jump slightly and at one point you can see jack's hand clip in from nowhere put in the item then completely vanish.
I am not sure if we do effectively sell the product because the main focus of the advert became more towards how to make tea as to why you should use PG tips tea and as a result I don't believe that any persuasive techniques we may have used would be effective.
The messages we were trying to send to the audience was buy PG tips tea, and "this is how you should make tea". Of these two messages the only one I feel really got focused on in the Advert was the latter rather than the former which should have been our focused instead of just being thrown in at the end like "oh yeah, almost forgot, buy PG tips!" which is how I felt it ended up being conveyed. To convey the message to our target audience of teens/students, we used actors who were that age as well as using music references that most people in that category would recognise such as Star Wars' Duel of Fates from Episode 1, during the "oh no he put the milk in first" scene.
Personal Reflection
Compared to our original intentions our advert only reflects half of the message that we were trying to convey
I feel I did the best I could during the project, however if the other people in the group had taken the project seriously, then I believe that I could have dpne a lot better as would the group as a whole
